LISBON FRAGMENT

Lisbon is a beautiful city. In the older parts of the town many of the houses are covered with tiles all over. I couldn't get enough of looking at all the beautuful patterns. And there is even ....

Hier zwei Beispiele:

... a tile museum, which is worth a visit for sure. There I bought a book filled with pictures of tiles and houses. Just as I had seen all over the town. Here are two examples:

In the museum itself I discovered a tile that fascinated me. I converted the pattern into a fragment - a small pattern element that can be arranged and repeated in a grid.

I tried it out on my flight home from Lisbon to Hamburg.

lisbon fragment, braze, 'nzeppel, peanuckle, flux, jetties
lisbon fragment, braze, 'nzeppel, peanuckle, flux, jetties

There are no limits for variations and enbellishments! Have fun!

The small fragment can now be arranged in different ways to create a larger pattern.

Therefore it is helpful to first create the structure of the overall pattern. Do so by first drawing all the complete stripes, that will later appear to be lying on top of the others - see on the left.

update 31.07.2017

I just learned there's already a similar pattern called b'twined. But never mind. I found my additional fragment version in Lisbon though.

I assume this will happen more and more as new tangles are being created by so many different people. Even if there was a central database containing each and every tangle, unexpected incidents like these would still occur. I like both patterns, but appreciate your sample drawings to show us so many variations. "...and we don't shoot deputies".

What i like about your tangle is reading about the approach you took to deconstruct something down to the most simpliest detail or fragment and afterwards, showing all the possible variations one could obtain by grouping or highlighting them in various ways. This is an excellent learning tool for someone who is just learning about the Zentangle jargon of fragments and reticulas. While your pattern is similar to betwinned, it technically is still somewhat different in the basic drawing of the fragment is worthy of recognition at least due to that slight difference.

I think that Mattski1208 made a very valid point, and I liked hearing that point of view. I do like the simplicity of the deconstruction that you did, and am enjoying working with your design. Thanks so much.
