LEAF AND DART

Wo wir auch gehen und stehen: Muster umgeben uns.

Auf jedem Spaziergang kann uns ein interessantes Fundstück begegnen. So ging es auch mir im Frühjahr.

Wherever we go, patterns surround us.
We might come across an interesting find on any walk. That is exactly what happened to me in the spring.

Inspiriert wurde mein Muster LeafAndArt durch das verwandte Muster EggAndDart von Simone Menzel.

Beide Muster - auch unter genau diesen Namen - sind klassische Ornamentbänder, die aus dem antiken Griechenland stammen, von den Römern übernommen wurden. Sie schmücken oft Gesimse, Kapitelle und andere architektonische Zierelemente. Über die Renaissance und den Klassizismus fanden sie außerdem Verwendung in Kunsthandwerk und Möbelbau.

My "LeafAndArt" pattern was inspired by the related "EggAndDart" pattern by Simone Menzel.

Both patterns - known by these very names -

are classic ornamental bands that originated in ancient Greece and were adopted by the Romans. They often adorn cornices, capitals, and other architectural decorative elements. Through the Renaissance and Neoclassical periods, they also found their way into craftsmanship and furniture making.

Ist man erst einmal auf diese beiden Muster aufmerksam geworden, kann man sie an vielen Orten finden - natürlich auch im Internet.

Mir fiel bei einem Spaziergang in Bad Bevensen in der Lüneburge Heide eine Tür ins Auge. Da war es ja: das Muster Leaf And Dart in freier Wildbahn.

Und damit war es für mich die Zeit gekommen, es zu dekonstruieren. Hier ist mein Stepout für euch:

Once you become aware of these two patterns, you can spot them in many places—including, of course, on the internet.

While out for a walk in Bad Bevensen on the Lüneburg Heath, a door caught my eye. There it was: the "Leaf and Dart" pattern in the wild.

And so, the time had come for me to deconstruct it. Here is my step-out for you:

Auf der ersten Kachel habe ich die Muster EggAndDart und LeafAndDart kombiniert. Auf der anderen Kachel siehst du LeafAndDart "pur", jedoch begleitet von kleinen Bandmustern. Die Tür aus Bad Bevensen hat mich inspiriert, kleine "Perlenschnüre" um das Muster zu legen. Das passt perfekt, finde ich.

On the first tile, I combined the Egg-and-Dart and Leaf-and-Dart patterns.

On the other tile, you see Leaf-and-Dart in its pure form, though accompanied by small ribbon patterns. The door from Bad Bevensen inspired me to place small "strings of pearls" around the pattern. I think it fits perfectly.
